Man struck, killed by SEPTA Broad Street Line train at Hunting Park Station
An investigation is underway, officials said, after a 41-year-old man stepped backward off a platform at Hunting Park Station and was struck and killed by a train on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line train on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the incident happened at about 1:30 a.m., when a man — identified by officials as 41-year-old Terrell Burton, of North Philadelphia, allegedly stepped backwards off a platform at the Hunting Park Station, located on the 4200 block of North Broad Street.
Initially, police said the man stepped off a train before falling off the platform.
However, SEPTA officials said a review of surveillance footage showed that Burton entered the station at about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday and fell from a platform about an hour later.
He did not ride the train that struck him as, SEPTA officials said, the train was a “work train” not a passenger train.
Police said that Burton was killed when he fell between the train and the platform as the train moved southbound along the track.
Police said he was pronounced at the scene at about 2:03 a.m.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, officials said.
