Man killed, 4 others hurt in Riviera Beach shooting and carjacking, police say
One man was killed and another four were shot in a violent incident Monday evening in Riviera Beach, according to authorities.
A ShotSpotter alert and 911 calls brought officers to the scene of 1555 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 6:15 p.m.
According to police, the shooter had opened fire at a group of men, carjacked two of them, shot them and fled.
One of the victims died at the scene, police said. Two are in critical condition and two are recovering from minor gunshot wounds at the hospital.
Authorities said they immediately started looking for the suspect vehicle, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers spotted it on Interstate 95 near Indrio Road in St. Lucie County.
The suspect, whose name has not been revealed, was detained and taken to the police department to be interviewed.
