Man hospitalized after being struck by hit-and-run driver in Miami Gardens, police say
A man was taken to the hospital on Sunday after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Miami Gardens, police said.
According to Miami Gardens Police, officers arrived in the area after receiving reports that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.
During their investigation, police said that the driver of a Sedan was traveling westbound at a high-rate of speed near the intersection of Northwest 191st and Fifth Place when they struck a man who was kneeling in the roadway.
After the man was struck, the driver stopped, yelled at witnesses in the area to call the police, got back in his car and fled the scene.
The man was then taken to the Aventura Hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, where he remains in stable but critical condition.
His identity was not released.
In the neighborhood, shoes were left behind on the roadway and crime scene tape blocked off part of it as officers worked to piece together what happened.
Neighbors told NBC6 that they found a man lying in the roadway and believe he was involved in a hit-and-run crash.
One woman said in Spanish that they started topping cars so they wouldn’t hit the man, and then immediately called 911.
An investigation into the crash remains active.
