Man hospitalized after being shot, likely stabbed, in North Philly, police say

A man, who was being transported in a private vehicle after being shot — and potentially stabbed — in an attack in North Philly, was escorted to a hospital in Philly overnight, officials said.

According Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident unfolded just after midnight, early Wednesday, when officers responded to the report of a shooting that happened near the intersection of 8th and Huntington streets in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia.

Upon arrival, Small said, people at the scene told first responders that the victim of the shooting had been taken to the hospital by a private vehicle.

A few blocks away, he said, officers located the vehicle and escorted the car carrying the injured 28-year-old man to a nearby hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, the man was treated for gunshot wounds, as well as a likely stab wound, to his legs and he was placed in critical but stable condition, Small told NBC10.

At the scene of the incident, investigators recovered five spent shell casings and, Small said, there was a trail of blood across Huntington Street, showing where the victim fled the scene and entered a private vehicle for transport to the hospital.

Small said police did not immediately determine a motive in this incident, nor were any arrests made.

But, he said, there were a number of police surveillance cameras and residential cameras in the area where the incident occurred.

As of about 5:30 a.m., Small said, investigators were reviewing footage to determine what might have happened in this incident.

An investigation, he said, was underway.
