A man is facing DUI manslaughter and other charges in a crash on the Florida’s Turnpike in Davie back in December that killed his passenger, records showed.

Fabian Andreas Lepe Rojo, 33, of Doral, was arrested after he surrendered Monday to face charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI causing injury, DUI causing property damage, and driving with a suspended license, an arrest affidavit said.

The charges stem from the Dec. 5, 2025 crash that killed 36-year-old Lenia Mesa, who would have turned 37 two days later.

According to the affidavit, Lepe Rojo was driving a Mercedes GLC-class sedan when he stopped in the center lane of the Turnpike above Interstate 595.

The driver of a FedEx tractor-trailer was unable to avoid him and rear-ended him, leaving the Mercedes severely damaged and killing Mesa, the front passenger in the Mercedes, the affidavit said.

Lepe Rojo was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Although Florida Highway Patrol troopers at the scene didn’t observe any signs of impairment on Lepe Rojo, a trooper who went to the hospital saw Lepe Rojo had bloodshot watery eyes, the affidavit said.

And a toxicology report later showed his blood alcohol level was at .265, more than three times the legal limit in Florida, the affidavit said.

Video from the Hard Rock Casino showed Lepe Rojo having multiple drinks from about 10 p.m. to a little after 11:15 p.m. on Dec. 4, and investigators found he had been drinking at a bar earlier that evening for nearly two hours, the affidavit said.

Records also showed the Mercedes had traveled north to Palm Beach County despite having no reason to travel north, and the affidavit said Lepe Rojo’s impairment “more than likely” caused him to become disoriented and travel north instead of south.

The affidavit said Lepe Rojo’s license currently wasn’t valid and had been suspended on Dec. 30, 2022, for one year for refusing to submit a breath/urine/blood test and again on May 20, 2024, for 180 days for DUI.

Lepe Rojo was booked into jail, records showed.
