Man claims self-defense after teen killed in New Year's Eve shooting in Tamarac: BSO
A man was questioned and released after a teen was killed and a woman was wounded in a shooting in Tamarac on Wednesday night, officials said.
Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said deputies received a report of a shooting at a home in the 7900 block of Northwest 71st Avenue around 10:10 p.m.
When deputies arrived they found a teen and a woman who’d both been shot.
Surveillance footage showed paramedics working on the teen moments after the shooting outside the home.
The teen, identified as 16-year-old Orlando Wedderburn, was taken to a local hospital with what officials initially said were potentially life-threatening injuries.
Officials confirmed on Thursday that Wedderburn died from his injuries.
The woman was grazed by a bullet and treated at the scene, and a man was detained at the scene for questioning.
The man was later released after he presented a self-defense claim, officials said.
Officials said the shooting remains under investigation, and the case will be presented to the Broward State Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
