Man arrested after SWAT responds to hours-long barricade situation in Lauderhill

A man was arrested after SWAT responded to an hours-long barricade situation at a Lauderhill apartment complex.

Lauderhill Police officials said they were called on Tuesday at around 8:45 p.m. to a shooting at a residence in the 5700 block of Blueberry Court, within the Blueberry Hill community.

“Officers arrived at the scene and were advised by a family member that an adult male was inside the residence and had fired four rounds through a bathroom door before barricading himself inside the bathroom,” police said in a statement.

Police said they made verbal contact with the man, but he refused to come out. In the meantime, they evacuated the home and nearby residences as a precaution.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Negotiators responded to the scene and helped officers take the man into custody early Wednesday morning.

The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Anthony Hardwick. He was charged with shooting within an occupied dwelling.

The motive for the shooting is currently unknown.

No one was hurt, and there is no threat to the public, police said.
