Low temperatures in Fort Lauderdale, Key West break records for coldest Feb. 2
Monday morning featured record-setting temperatures in Fort Lauderdale and Key West for the date – meaning it’s the coldest Feb. 2 we’ve had since we started tracking.
Fort Lauderdale fell to 37 degrees, breaking the record low of 38 degrees set in 1979.
Key West, meanwhile, fell to 49 degrees, which breaks the low temperature record of 50 degrees set in 1980.
Miami was a few degrees too warm to break the low temperature record for Feb. 2. But it did break the record on Sunday when it plunged to 35 degrees!

Is this the coldest it’s ever been in South Florida?
No. Temperatures in the 30s are extremely rare in South Florida, and this may be the coldest Feb. 2 on record, but for all-time lows, you’d have to go back even farther.
Fort Lauderdale’s all-time record low is 28°F, set on January 20, 1977. Miami’s all-time record low is 27°F set in January 1940.
Current projections for early February are approaching those levels, underscoring how unusual this cold spell could be.
Monday’s forecast
Highs on Monday remain well below normal. Highs reach into the upper-50s, which is nearly 15 degrees below normal. We keep a brisk breeze but it won’t be as strong Monday afternoon as it has been. Winds will be 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph at times.

2/2 3:15 PM – While *slightly* warmer than the last 2 nights, additional cold weather is likely tonight. Lows will likely dip into the 30s across all of South Florida, with coldest temperatures expected across inland areas and Southwest Florida. pic.twitter.com/4Mayw8Mzy7— NWS Miami (@NWSMiami) February 2, 2026
How cold will it be this week?
We attempt to warm up each day a little more than the day before. Highs get back into the 70s by Wednesday and Thursday with overnight lows warming into the 50s—just in time for another cold front to drop us back into the 40s by Friday morning.
