John White unseated as City of Tonawanda Mayor
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Republican mayor John White appears to have been unseated by Democrat William Strassburg in the City of Tonawanda.
Strassburg, a former Tonawanda police chief, received 2,057 votes (54.62%) and White received 1,703 votes (45.22%). Erie County is reporting 100% of the votes accounted for.
Strassburg served the City of Tonawanda Police Department from 1990 to 2023, becoming chief of police in 2013. He retired from the police department in 2023.
White had been City of Tonawanda mayor since 2021. Under his watch, the city received a $10 million state grant and has been preparing to begin construction in the spring on a redevelopment project on Fillmore Avenue called "The Elli" -- a mixed-use development that will include both apartments and commercial spaces on the waterfront. It is one of a number of projects handled in White's administration.
