Iconic Rocky statue temporarily moves inside the Philadelphia Museum of Art

A massive bronze sculpture that draws millions of visitors to Philadelphia each year has been relocated.

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the city’s famed Rocky statue was removed from the bottom of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s steps and moved inside the museum to be included in the upcoming exhibition, “Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments.

For safety reasons, the museum steps and the area around the statue were closed to the public during the transition.

In the meantime, visitors can still view Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky statue, which he loaned to the city from his private collection, located at the top of the museum steps.

Then, starting April 25, visitors will also be able to see the city’s Rocky statue inside the museum when the exhibition opens to the public.

When the exhibition concludes in August, officials said the city’s statue will be permanently relocated to the top of the steps, and Sylvester Stallone’s statue will be returned to him.
