Homeowner claims over $30K stolen from SW Ranches home

A South Florida homeowner is speaking out on Monday after his Southwest Ranches home was broken into.

Just four days before Christmas, Miguel Mirano said that his home, which is up for sale, was broken into by a man.

Surveillance video on Sunday shows a man parking in the driveway and then walking down the path towards the front door.

Five minutes later, the same man walks out of the home, goes into his car and drives away.

NBC6 spoke with Mirano, who said his family left the house to allow for an open house.

But the open house was canceled, and when he got home, he noticed his front door was open, and his wife found their locked jewelry drawer forced open wide.

“This is the door he broke,” Mirano said. “Forced open. It has a lock. Locking mechanism.”

Mirano said the man got away with jewelry worth more than $30,000.

“My wife’s jewelry, her Cartier, her wedding band, her first engagement ring, earrings and rings that belong to my daughter that aren’t replaceable,” he said.

Mirano said that the day before the alleged break-in, the same man caught on camera showed up at his home and spoke with him.

“He goes, You have an open house?’ I was like, ‘No,'” he said. “He goes, ‘My mistake. Blessings,’ and he bowed his head and walked away. My wife even said, ‘How strange. I have a bad feeling about that guy.'”

Mirano said his family is shaken up and feels scared and vulnerable during the holidays.

“Completely distraught,” he said. “We’re broken. Right before Christmas. You’re supposed to be happy, and now we’re thinking, are we safe?”

NBC6 reached out to Davie Police, who said the incident was a delayed burglary and remains under investigation.
