Here's who won seats on the Buffalo Board of Education this Election Day

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- WIVB News 4 is your local election headquarters. Along with Buffalo mayor, town supervisors and comptrollers, voters made their voices heard about who they want to see leading Buffalo schools.

Most candidates ran unopposed for three year terms. Talia Rodriguez ran for a West District seat and beat incumbent Jennifer Mecozzi and candidate Mustafa Abdo.

Here's a look at who will be representing your local school next year.

Central District

Lewis Hawkins won a seat on the board with the Central District.

Park District

Erik Bohen was a director of Medicaid transportation for Western New York and worked as a special education teacher in Buffalo Public Schools for 13 years.

In his campaign, Bohen prioritized health and safety, academic performance, professional development, and cost savings.

North District

Cindi McEachon served as the vice president of executive affairs as well as a North District board member. She has been on the board since 2022.

She is an adjunct professor at the University at Buffalo. She serves with multiple nonprofits and has won numerous awards over the years, including 'Woman in Leadership' in 2015 and Lockport High Schools Distinguished Alumni award in 2017.

West District

Running for a seat in the West District, Talia Rodriguez has worked in multiple levels of government and helped establish the Buffalo Public Schools Saturday Academy program.

She has secured funding for the Lafayette High School student business competition as well as summer lunch. Rodriguez holds a degree from University at Buffalo School of Law. She beat out incumbent Jennifer Mecozzi who represented the district for almost 10 years.

Ferry District

Stephon Wright refers to himself as a "Champion for Buffalo's Future." He was employed at Say Yes Buffalo, a nonprofit for underprivileged students.

In his bid for a seat in the city's Ferry District, Wright said he was focused on parent engagement, student mental health, improving attendance and graduation rates, career readiness, literacy, teacher retention, and school safety.

East District

Dr. Kathy Evans-Brown was sworn in as Buffalo Public Schools board president on Jan. 2 of this year. She was previously the vice president of student achievement and represents the East District.

Evans-Brown was born and raised in Buffalo and earned her master's and bachelor's at local colleges.
