‘He died alone': Family asks driver to come forward after crash kills NJ man

The family of a South Jersey man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash over the weekend is hoping people in the community can help them piece together what happened.
The crash happened on Saturday, Oct. 18 just before 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Andrews Road and Lehigh Manor Drive in Winslow Township, New Jersey, police reported.
When officers got to the scene, they found a man lying in the road but the car that hit him was no where to be found, police said.
Investigators said that they think the man, identified as 36-year-old Jon Kitzmiller, was walking along the road when he was hit by a car and fell to the ground.
Kitzmiller was treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to police.
On Thursday, Oct. 23, officers were back at the intersection where the crash happened looking for any video or clues that could help find the driver.
The family of Kitzmiller is now pleading for answers and hopes the driver will turn themselves in.

“He died alone. Scared. With no family. No one there. It’s heartbreaking and we are heartbroken,” Judd Kitzmiller said. “We are still trying to find out the details of what happened. Who hit him? Why did they run? Was he crossing the street?”
Judd said that Jon liked to take walks and the crash happened about half a mile away from Jon’s home in Camden County.
Neighbors described the scene as chaotic as officers rushed to respond and help Jon. They also shared concerns about speeding and safety along the road where Jon was hit.
Jon’s loved ones describe him as funny, kind and a loving man.
“He had the heart of a teddy bear, really. You can’t replace him,” Judd said.
Whoever the alleged driver is, the Kitzmiller family told NBC01 that they want to offer forgiveness but they just want the full story.
“I think it will be easier for you and easier for everyone involved to come clean and come out and let us know what happened. We deserve that. My brother deserves that,” Judd said.
