Group beating teen girl near Mission Bay's Belmont Park captured on video

A South Bay mom is asking for the public to help find a group who, police say, hospitalized her teen daughter after a brutal assault at a popular beach destination.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot at Belmont Park in Mission Beach.

Graphic video shows the 16-year-old girl after police say she’d been beaten and pistol-whipped to the ground and then repeatedly stomped until she was unconscious.

“Seeing her body just lay there, without her moving, and they continued to kick her in the face and viciously … I don’t understand,” said Nallely Rodriguez, the girl’s mother.

Rodriguez showed NBC 7 pictures of her daughter’s body and face that were bruised and bloodied from the attack. The mom, who said nothing could justify what happened, teared up watching the video. She’s worried about the long-term impact the assault with a deadly weapon could have on her daughter, now that she’s left the hospital.

“She’s a human being, and, you know, things can happen in the future where she can be a vegetable in a few months because of a blood clot or she can be dead,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said her daughter and a cousin were leaving the bathroom at the beach when they were confronted by a group of guys and two females that her daughter said she didn’t know but somehow knew her.

“They showed her a picture of a girl who knew her, and she told the guys, ‘Get her,’ ” Rodriguez explained.

During the attack, some type of liquid was poured on the teenage victim. Police say that, although one gunshot was fired, no one was injured by the bullet.

“I am hoping that, you know, the law takes care of this, and they’re charged for what they did to her — they all get charged for it,” Rodriguez said.

San Diego police said they’re working to find the suspects. They also noted they have a beach team and that extra officers are always patrolling because of the amount of people the area attracts.
