Florida woman charged with fraud giggles after being arrested: Sheriff

A Daytona woman who was arrested after being accused of committing fraud thought it was a laughing matter as she was seen giggling when deputies placed her in handcuffs.

Jacqueline James, 21, was charged with grand theft and fraudulently obtaining property under $20,000.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, James was part of a bank phone scam that resulted in the victim losing nearly $1,700.

James turned herself in, but deputies said she did not tell them who else was possibly involved in the scam.

In body camera footage, James was seen giggling after being arrested.

During their investigation, deputies were able to track the stolen money to James’ bank account. She also spent the money, deputies said.

She was then taken to the Martin County Jail, and a judge set her bond at $10,000.

Deputies said that in the last two years in Martin County, over $12 million has been defrauded.
