Flights schedules back to normal at San Diego Airport after widespread delays
After 338 flight delays at San Diego International Airport due to the government shutdown on Sunday, flight schedules mostly returned to normal by Monday.
By 3:20 p.m. Monday, 27 flights were delayed at the airport, with most of them being Southwest Airlines, according to the airport’s website.
In a statement to NBC 7, representatives from the airport said that flights are being delayed up to an hour on Sunday due to the effects of the federal government shutdown on checkpoint wait times and flight scheduling processes, which are subject to the operations of their federal and airline partners.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration’s website, the Air Traffic Control System Command Center attributed the delays to “staffing,” with an average delay time of 59 minutes on Sunday.
More than 300 flights out of the San Diego International Airport were delayed at one point on Sunday, according to the FlightAware website.
SAN authorities are advising travelers flying out of the San Diego International Airport to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport and to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight.
