Father, son struck by stray bullets during Northeast Philly shootout, police say
A father and son were both struck by stray bullets during a shootout between two groups in Northeast Philadelphia early Sunday evening, police said.
The 40-year-old man and his 14-year-old son were both speaking with friends along the 4700 block of Vista Street at 6:27 p.m., according to investigators. As they were talking, two groups of people confronted each other in the area. Members of both groups then pulled out weapons and opened fire at each other, police said.
The father and son — who were not involved in the confrontation — were both struck by stray bullets. Both victims were shot in the abdomen and the father was also shot in the arm, police said.

They were both taken to local hospitals and placed in stable condition.
Police believe both victims were innocent bystanders. They also don’t believe anyone in the groups that fired at each other were injured.
Police have not released a detailed description of the suspects. They continue to investigate.
