El Cajon man accused of sex charges involving teen girls

An El Cajon man was behind bars Friday and facing more than a dozen criminal charges for allegedly having forcible sex with several underage girlfriends.

Greyson Washborne, 21, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of 14 criminal counts, including rape, sodomy and sexual assault, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

“During the course of the investigation, detectives identified three victims who reported that the suspect had committed sexual offenses against them while in relationships,” ECPD Sgt. Steven Breakall said. “Two of the victims were 16 years old at the time of the alleged incidents.”

Detective Brian Lacey with ECPD said Washborne’s alleged victims knew him as Thomas Menchaca before he changed his name and that he used social media to meet and groom young girls.

“Once they got behind closed doors, that’s where all the girls and women described someone they did not originally meet,” Lacey said.

El Cajon police, in conjunction with the San Diego County District Attorney’s office, have been investigating the case since 2023.

Washborne’s dating relationships went from casual to coercive, and he used fear and violence to manipulate them, according to Deputy District Attorney Miriam Shoval. When they tried to say anything, he threatened to ruin their reputations online.

“Claiming they have STDs, threatened to post naked pictures about them online,” Shoval said.

Investigators say social media was the way into the alleged victims’ lives and the way to control them.

“Social media, there is no filter in the sense of who is being honest and transparent and who has your best interest in mind,” Lacey said.

Washborne was being held at San Diego Central Jail without bail pending arraignment.
