Driver killed as car careens through fence at West Mount Airy home, police say

Law enforcement officials said a 34-year-old man was killed early Sunday when the car he was driving plowed through the fence of a home in Philadelphia’s West Mount Airy section.

According to police, the driver — who police did not immediately provide further identifying information on — was killed in a crash that happened at about 3:27 a.m. along the 200 block of Pelham Road in West Mount Airy.

Here, officials said, the car, a 2007 Dodge, came to rest just outside of a home after it was “heavily damaged” when it drove through a fence and onto the property.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital after he suffered a “severe head injury,” according to police, where he was pronounced at about 4:21 a.m.

No one else was immediately reported injured in this incident.

Officials did not immediately detail what may have caused this deadly crash.

But, they told NBC10 that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
