Driver intentionally strikes 2 officers in Plymouth Meeting, police say
A driver intentionally drove into two police officers outside a hotel in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, officials said.
The ordeal began at 12:39 p.m. on Friday when Plymouth Township Police received a call about an erratic driver in the area of Hickory and Narcissa roads in Plymouth Meeting. A Plymouth Township police officer responded to the area three minutes later at 12:42 p.m. where they found the suspect’s vehicle, a white 2021 Mercedes SUV, in the parking lot of the Double Tree Hotel on Fountain Road, officials said.
As the officer pulled up behind the SUV, the suspect intentionally backed up and crashed into his police vehicle, according to investigators.
Officials said the officer then exited his vehicle. That’s when the suspect intentionally drove directly at him, according to investigators. Police said the officer pulled out his weapon and fired at the suspect who struck him with the SUV.
Police said the suspect continued driving through the parking lot of the hotel as the officer tried to apply a tourniquet to his wound. The suspect then returned to the area and once again drove directly at the officer, striking him with the vehicle again, investigators said. The suspect then drove at the officer and struck him two more times, according to police.
More officers responded to the scene. Investigators said the suspect drove at a second officer who responded and struck his vehicle head-on with the SUV. At some point, the SUV became disabled and the other officers captured the suspect, police said.
One of the injured officers was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital while the other officer was taken to Paoli Hospital. They were both listed in stable condition.
Police also said the suspect was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office told NBC10 that the suspect is currently being held at the county’s Correctional Facility.
