Dangerous cold and below freezing wind chills for Philly region this weekend

The Philadelphia region is experiencing life-threatening cold this weekend with wind chills that could drop to as low as negative 25 degrees.

Saturday afternoon and evening will continue to be bitterly cold with wind gusts reaching between 40 to 60 m.p.h.

The coldest wind chills so far have been in the Poconos and the Jersey Shore, but temperatures have been below zero in Philly as well.

According to PECO, around 21,600 customers are without power as of 6:27p.m. on Saturday. Atlantic City Electric is reporting more than 500 customers are without power as well.

If you lose power during the strong winds, make sure you and your family stay hydrated, stay warm with wearing lots of layers and make sure to ventilate your space properly when using generators and heaters.

In conditions like this, exposed skin can freeze in less than 20 minutes.

Then, on Sunday the bitter cold will continue but the winds gusts of 20 to 30 m.p.h. that will relax as the day goes on.

Highs will be around 20 degrees with wind chills remaining at below zero despite a mostly sunny sky.

Cold temperatures will stick around for Monday, Feb. 9 hovering around the upper 20s with more sunny skies.
