‘Bolder Than Most Rapist' arrested for violating parole

A sexually violent predator, known as the “Bolder Than Most Rapist” for committing a series of rapes in the 1980s, has been arrested again.

Alvin Ray Quarles was released as a transient in Borrego Springs earlier this year after serving 25 years in state prison and about a decade in sex offender treatment at Coalinga State Hospital.

Quarles appeared in court on Friday after CONREP Liberty Health Care, the program supervising his release, filed a motion to revoke his status due to a violation of the conditions of his parole. No details were revealed about how parole was violated.

The sexually violent predator is due back in court in January for a hearing that will determine when revocation will take place, according to San Diego County Deputy District Attorney Miriam Hurtado. In the meantime, Quarles will remain in a mental health institution.

Quarles pleaded guilty to four forcible rape counts in 1989. Prosecutors have said that Quarles would assault his victims at knifepoint, sometimes forcing the women’s boyfriends or husbands to watch.

As a condition of Quarles release, he has 24/7 monitoring by Liberty Health Care and is accompanied by security personnel at all times. He also has several other conditions enforceable by the company, which is contracted by the State of California to manage the supervised release program.
