ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) — Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon, coach Sean McDermott said Monday.

Oliver was injured in the second quarter of Buffalo's 40-9 victory at Carolina on Sunday. It was Oliver's second game back after missing four weeks with an ankle injury sustained in practice, and it left the Bills without both starting defensive tackles following DaQuan Jones' calf injury during pregame warmups two weeks ago at Atlanta. Further thinning the line, rookie T.J. Sanders is on injured reserve following knee surgery earlier this month, and second-year player Dewayne Carter was lost for the season with an Achilles tendon tear before the start.

On the back end of Buffalo's defense, safeties Taylor Rapp (knee) and Damar Hamlin (pectoral) are on injured reserve, and linebacker Matt Milano (pectoral) has missed four of the past five games. Another starting linebacker Terrel Bernard (ankle) was in uniform but did not play against the Panthers.

The injuries on defense have caused the Bills to elevate veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and safety Jordan Poyer from the practice squad for multiple games, and could lead to the experienced Bills being signed to the active roster for the remainder of the season.

The Bills (5-2) host the Kansas City Chiefs (4-3) on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.
