Aztecs pass rusher Trey White intends to enter NCAA transfer portal

The NCAA transfer portal for football opens on Friday, January 2. When it does, the Aztecs are going to have plenty of holes to fill on what was one of the best defenses in the nation.

Edge rusher Trey White is among several players intending to enter the portal. White, an Eastlake High School alum, is a two-time All-Mountain West Conference performer who’s become one of the best pass rushers in the nation over the last two years. After a 12.5 sack season in 2024 he dropped the quarterback seven times in 2025 but coaches will tell you he might have been even better. White drew multiple double and occasional triple teams, allowing several of his teammates to put up career-high sack numbers.

White has one more year of eligibility and will very likely spend it at a Power 4 school before heading to the National Football League. He’ll be the highest profile defection but not the only one.

Fellow edge rushers Ryan Henderson and August Salvati, linebacker Owen Chambliss and safeties Dwayne McDougle and Dalesean Staley also plan on entering the portal. Add in the fact cornerback Chris Johnson is expected to be a top-50 NFL Draft pick and San Diego State will have to replace more than half the starters from a unit that ranked 6th in the nation in scoring defense (15.4 pts/gm) in 2025.
