AME church in North Philly vandalized with racist graffiti over the weekend

A pastor is sharing a message of resilience after her church in North Philadelphia was vandalized with racist graffiti over the weekend.

Pastor Tianda Smart-Heath, from the Union Trinity AME Church at the intersection of 16th and Jefferson streets, said that she saw the spray painted graffiti on the outside wall after services finished on Sunday morning.

Smart-Heath said that the church has been vandalized before, but has never had any racist incidences of vandalism.

“That is not a true statement that we subscribe to,” said Pastor Tianda Smart-Heath. “And it will not break us. As much as it hurt us, it won’t stop us. We will continue to do the work that has been placed in our hands.”

The vandalism comes less than two weeks after Roxborough High School was vandalized with hate speech graffiti, however, no connection has been made between the two incidents.
