9 people, including children, hurt in minivan rollover crash in Fort Lauderdale

Nine people were rushed to the hospital after two minivans collided and one overturned in Fort Lauderdale Sunday night, according to fire rescue.

Authorities responded to the crash along the 500 block of West Sunrise Boulevard just before 9 p.m., Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials said.

One of the minivans overturned in the collision and left people trapped, officials said.

“Due to the number of people involved in the crash, we declared a mass casualty incident,” officials said. “A total of nine people were transported to Broward Health Medical Center in varying conditions.”

Seven of the victims suffered serious injuries and were declared trauma patients. Three of them are children.

The white Dodge minivan was seen rolled onto its side while a red Dodge Caravan that was also involved was heavily damaged.

Witness Mohammed Hweih, who works at a smoke shop across the street, saw the aftermath of the crash.

“The cops pulled up, a lot of people gathered to it,” he said. “I hope everybody’s safe. It was bad.”

More information on what caused the crash was not immediately available.
