7-year-old girl riding in backseat of car hit by gunfire on North Philly street
An investigation is underway after a young girl showed up to a Philadelphia hospital with gunshot wounds to her arm, officials with the police department said.
Officers with the Philadelphia Police Department were called to Temple University Hospital around 7:18 p.m. on Oct. 28 after they were told the 7-year-old girl arrived by private vehicle, officials said.
According to police, the shooting happened on the 3000 block of North Marshall Street in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small explained that the girl was riding in the backseat of a Honda sedan with two adult family members when the car was hit by gunfire on Tuesday evening.
One of the bullets went through the door and hit the girl in the left arm, according to Small.
When the adults realized the girl had been hit, they drove her over to the hospital right away, Small said.
Investigators found at least five spent shell casings at the scene, Small explained.
The girl was listed in stable condition and with family members at the hospital, officials said.
Investigators are reviewing nearby surveillance cameras with the hopes of finding out what exactly happened.
