7 children burned in ‘flash fire' at firepit outside Ocean Co. home, police say
Seven children were hurt — and three were briefly hospitalized — during a “flash fire” in a firepit outside of a home in Berkeley Township, New Jersey on Wednesday evening, officials said.
According to police, first responders were called to a residence located along North Trenton Avenue in Berkely Township, New Jersey, at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, following a report that claimed seven children were burned.
Emergency personnel that responded to the report, officials said, found the children all suffered burns “from a flash fire that occurred in an outdoor firepit.”
Two of these children were taken to a nearby hospital where they were treated and released while, officials said, four of the children were released to their parents and refused medical treatment.
A third child received medical treatment after, officials said, they were taken to a hospital by a private vehicle.
This child was also treated and released, officials said.
Police are working to determine what may have led to the “flash fire” that caused the injuries.
An investigation, officials said, is ongoing.
