At least five people were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash that closed a portion of Chester Pike in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania, on Monday, officials said.

Officials said a “serious accident with entrapment involved” occurred between Summit Avenue and Amosland Road on Chester Pike at about 10:20 a.m.

Investigators believe a Corvette was traveling in the area at a high speed when it sparked a crash involving four other vehicles. At least one of the vehicles involved struck a gas line which was shut down within minutes. Another car flipped on its side and its windows were busted.

One of the struck vehicles was driven by Folcroft Mayor Franny DiCicco.

“I heard him speed, because it’s a sports car, you can hear, and then he hit me and it lifted up a little and then he lost control, the car spun around and hit all of them cars,” DiCicco said.

One resident, Vincent Bunguy, rushed in to help the driver of the Corvette as well as two other drivers involved in the crash.

“Part of life,” Bunguy told NBC10. “One day I might need help.”

In an afternoon update, police said at least five people have been hospitalized in this crash. While officials have not yet revealed their conditions, Prospect Park Police Chief David Madonna said he was grateful that everyone survived.

“I was certainly expecting the worst,” Chief Madonna said. “They were fortunate. No community wants to see something like this.”

Police continue to investigate the crash.
