4 Carlsbad massage parlors shut down after prostitution investigation, police say

Four massage businesses in Carlsbad that have been found to be engaged in prostitution have been shut down in the past six months, police said Wednesday.

The shuttered businesses include Ocean Mist Massage on Carlsbad Boulevard, Happy Shiatsu Spa on Jefferson Street, Imperial Massage Spa on Grand Avenue and King Spa on Gateway Road, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

The probe also led to seven arrests and the seizure of $35,477, police said.

Officials say the investigation began after business owners and community members raised concerns, and was conducted by the Carlsbad Police Department, Code Enforcement, and the City Attorney’s office.

“This coordinated approach allowed investigators to identify violations and take appropriate enforcement action to stop illegal activity,” the police department said in a news release.

Investigators urged the public to report suspicious activity in an effort to identify and prevent these crimes.
