3 arrested in undercover prostitution bust during Miami Music Week, cops say
A man and two women were arrested amid an undercover prostitution bust launched for Ultra Music Festival and Miami Music Week, authorities said.
The operation was undertaken by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office Human Trafficking Task Force and Miami Police Special Investigations Section to try to identify human trafficking victims during the music events, an arrest report said.
Detectives who viewed online escort ads sent text messages to a number listed on one and were told by a female that she couldn’t make a date but they should text her friend “Axel” who “has a lot of girls,” the report said.
A detectives texted the number for “Axel” asking if he had girls available and he replied he had two, the report said.
They agreed to meet at a hotel in Miami and discussed payment, and “Axel” said the girls could be paid in cash or he would accept money through CashApp, the report said.
The two females arrived at the hotel in a vehicle registered to 34-year-old Axhel Perea, who texted the detective that they were there, the report said.
An undercover detective agreed to pay each woman $1,000 in exchange for sex and when the money was handed over they were taken into custody, the report said.
Perea started to drive away but was detained before he was arrested on two counts each of deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution and directing another to a place of prostitution, the report said.
The women, 30-year-old Sandra Huaman and 33-year-old Maria Ribeiro, were arrested on charges of committing or engaging in prostitution, the report said.
Huaman told detectives that she just got to the United States and had met Perea last year when she visited the U.S., the report said.
Ribeiro said she met him at a club about a year ago, the report said.
