2 people arrested in San Diego for buying alcohol for minors
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Two people were arrested for furnishing alcohol to minors during a weekend operation by San Diego police.
According to the San Diego Police Department in a news release on Monday, 21 individuals were contacted during a "Shoulder Tap" operation on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Two of the 21 people were cited after they bought alcohol for minors, police stated.
The "Shoulder Tap" operation is an enforcement program by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control which is meant to reduce underage consumption of, or access to, alcohol.
“Underage drinking harms our community,” said SDPD Vice Lieutenant Daniel Hall. “Conducting these operations allow us to help reduce underage drinking and increase public safety.”
If an adult agrees to buy alcohol for an underage individual, they can be arrested and cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor, SDPD said.
The penalty is a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service.
