2 bodies recovered after burglary suspects crash into Deerfield Beach lake: BSO

Two bodies were pulled from the water after authorities said burglary suspects crashed their vehicle into a lake while fleeing in Deerfield Beach early Tuesday morning.

The incident began shortly before 4 a.m. when deputies received reports of a burglary in the 700 block of Deer Creek Emerald Way West, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said.

When deputies arrived at the scene, the driver of the suspected vehicle fled the area before crashing into a lake near Lakeside Way and Lakeside Drive.

One of the suspects inside the car was able to get out, and he was taken into custody, officials said.

A deputy then went into the water to try to save another suspect who was inside the vehicle, but was unable to do so.

Video showed several deputies at the scene and a diver swimming in the water behind homes in the neighborhood.

A man was later recovered from the water and was pronounced dead at the scene. The video showed the body being removed and placed in a yellow bag before the suspects’ white SUV was pulled from the lake.

One person was killed and authorities were searching for another after burglary suspects crashed their vehicle into a lake while fleeing in Deerfield Beach early Tuesday morning, officials said.

BSO officials had said there was possibly another person who was in the vehicle, and crews were searching the lake for them.

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, crews were seen removing a second body from the water, and BSO confirmed a second male had been pronounced dead.

“The focus of this investigation at this point was on rescue and recovery. Obviously a great deal of concern for the individuals who went inside the water when it was dark out and very poor visibility in the water. So that effort is still ongoing,” BSO spokesman Carey Codd told reporters earlier.

Officials haven’t released the identities of anyone involved. The incident remained under investigation.
